An altar

I am participating in an Artist's Way Circle for the next couple months.  One of the exercises suggests creating an altar space in the home.  I wanted to have candles, flowers, bright images and "offerings".

More wallflowers

So far they seem to be staying with a putty-like poster adhesive. I had to hot glue small stands on all of the flowers which adds an extra few minutes of installation time.

Pillows

A quick and easy update for spring.  I grabbed some fabric from Joann's and basically gift wrapped my pillows.  I got the idea from a Youtube video about a Japanese fabric wrapping technique.   From the back.  In a stack.

Dynamic Gesture

This continuous line drawing of a model in motion was a more successful piece from that session.  I like how the figures are clearly separate from each other, but also fit together nicely like a dance group.  The "dancers" really use all the levels and create an overall cohesive composition.

Gallery Review: 4411 Montrose (January 2019)

2/1/19 Gallery Review: 4411 Montrose (January 2019) On a Friday night in mid-January 2019, four art shows opened to a packed house.  The crowd throbbed electric like a nightclub, and I found myself gazing more at my fellow patrons than at the artwork.  I returned to 4411 Montrose this past week during the daytime in order investigate the pieces I had originally overlooked.  This time I got to park on the pavement instead of the dodgy lawn across the street! I followed the same circuit as before, checking in first at the David Shelton gallery.  Previously I came away from the show with a vague impression that it was about slavery. This time I learned that the artist Robert Hodge (a Houstonian) created this show about the African-American experience: layered, Black and full of expressive gouges.  Sprouting from diverse influences including A Tribe Called Quest and Mark Rothko, I remarked that a lot of the assembled pieces contained large sewn stitches...
