Small still life

A finished product. Details are complete. Adding more definition to the oranges. A lot of neutrals, raw sienna, burnt umber. At this stage it looks like a bowl of eggs. Initial drawing preparation, Original photograph. So many tools. Initial wash.

Complementary Color Still Life

Image
For my second assignment, I created this complementary color still life.  The background is totally invented, a new trick I learned to create depth: The finished product.  Complementary colors exist across from each other on the color wheel (purple/yellow, blue/orange, red/green). Trying to capture tone (lighting).  I chose this small scene with a football, a vase upside down and some cakes. Corrections to initial sketch. Color study. Initial sketch. Very light yellow wash. Initial photograph. As you can see, I left a lot of objects out of the scene.

Monochromatic Still Life

Image
One of my first assignments this semester was to a create a still life painting using only one color (monochromatic).  Final version  I'm honestly not crazy about my use of shading or shadows.  I guess it technically looks correct but not convincing .  It also seems sterile and clinical upon comparison with the initial sketch. First Draft  I actually prefer this initial sketch.  I think it has more warmth and personality.
